Volunteer Opportunities
Your Community Needs You!
Volunteer with Spark and help inspire a young person to pursue their interests and engage with their education. Spark students have apprenticed in exciting workplaces from veterinary clinics to pilot's cockpits, interior design firms to photography studios. Here are four exciting ways to get involved:
Option #1: Lead a Workshop About Your Profession!
Spark welcomes community members from all walks of life to lead 90-minute workshops around their profession or interest. One day’s workshop might feature a biologist doing a mini-lab on DNA; the next day, a community member with an interest in drawing might lead a sketching workshop. It’s a chance for Spark students to explore their interests and the many opportunities available in their own backyards.
No teaching experience is required – we believe that when you teach what you love, everyone is a natural teacher. To sign up, click "Volunteer Sign-Up" to the left.
Option #2: Host a Motivated Apprentice at Your Workplace!
Open doors for a local middle-school student by sharing your career! Apprenticeships are at the core of Spark, giving students hands-on experience in a field of their interest. Spark’s goal is to empower students with the knowledge that they can pursue their interests, connect with community members, and discover why education will help them toward realizing their dreams. Apprentice Teachers accept a Spark student into their workplace for 2-6 hours per week.
No prior experience is required, and we provide training to help volunteers develop a structured project for their apprentice student. If you're interested, please click "Volunteer Sign-Up" to the left.
Option #3: Support Spark's Events or Office.
Lend a hand to make Spark the best program it can be! We are always looking for volunteers to help with a variety of program tasks, from “Discovery Night” graduation ceremonies to administrative help. If you're interested, please click "Volunteer Sign-Up" to the left.
Option #4: Join Spark's Board of Directors.
Help Spark develop the network and fundraising support to make the program a continued and sustainable success. Please contact Chris Balme, Co-Director, at (415) 626-5470 x104 for more details.
