Jordan Broutman, Senior Program Coordinator

An Illinois native and College of Wooster graduate, Jordan ensures strong implementation of the Spark Program at our Philadelphia partner schools. Prior to coming to Spark, Jordan developed his passion for empowering youth through his service as a City Year Philadelphia AmeriCorps member. He served as a student tutor and team leader over a period of two years. While working within Philadelphia schools through his service, Jordan observed first-hand the importance of both project-based and social-emotional learning for middle school students. In his free time he enjoys running, playing violin, and dreaming of the day the Chicago Cubs finally win the World Series.

Deirdre Hake, Director of External Relations

A results-driven community leader with a proven track record, Deirdre works to grow support for Spark Philadelphia’s program and expand the region’s partnerships.  Deirdre is familiar with the education and mentoring sectors having spent more than six years in a variety of roles with Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern PA.  Her background directly supporting children and mentors, as well as building corporate and school partnerships, provides a solid foundation for her career evolution into development, events and annual giving. Deirdre also served as Program Director at Great Dames, Inc. and obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Pennsylvania State University. With a passion for people, process and organizational growth, Deirdre will help Spark Philadelphia create sustainable impact in the region.

Heather Lewis, Program Coordinator

A South Bronx native and graduate of Haverford College in the Greater Philadelphia area, Heather commits to program excellence! Her own experience having strong mentors open doors to a top-notch education experience inspired her to dedicate her career to giving back to underserved communities. Prior to joining Spark, Heather honed her skills in education, volunteer management, and strategic partnerships through service with City Year Greater Philadelphia and AmeriCorps VISTA, and through helping Community Partnership School advance its mission to provide a high quality education to children in North Philadelphia. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering, cooking, doing yoga, and working not to injure herself while running! 

Sophie Liu, Development Coordinator

As Development Coordinator for Spark, Sophie works to build the support for Spark's growing mentorship program in Philadelphia through grants and strong partnerships. Prior to Spark, Sophie studied Biology at Cornell University and served as Secretary-General for the Cornell Model United Nations Conference in 2016. Volunteering and living in Ithaca, NY was invaluable in enforcing her dedication to non-profit organizations. In her spare time, Sophie attends music shows, draws, cooks, and hangs out with her pet boa. She is thrilled to be a part of Spark Philadelphia during this exciting time!

Jim Schroder, Philadelphia Executive Director

As the Executive Director of Spark Philadelphia, Jim leads the growth and implementation of Spark's local programs, including managing Spark's relationships with key stakeholders, from corporate and community organizations to partnering schools. A native of Atlanta and graduate of Williams College, Jim is dedicated to creating partnerships that provide excellent educational opportunities to underserved students, a passion discovered during his work at Wesleyan University and with Hartford City Mission. Prior to coming to Spark, Jim worked as the Director of Corps Learning and Development for City Year Greater Philadelphia, and he recently completed his master's degree in Non-Profit Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. Jim will continue his commitment to creating opportunities through apprenticeships that reinvigorate students and inspire all of us.

Spark inspires 7th, 8th and 9th grade students to succeed in high school and beyond by connecting them with mentors in leading workplaces and supporting their academic journey with skill-building and resources. By engaging working professionals and connecting businesses with local communities, Spark empowers the next generation to perform better in school, graduate on time and lead fulfilling careers and lives.
